How do we work with CBT psychotherapy?

At our practice, located downtown, two blocks from Plaza 24 de Septiembre (Edificio Don Alcides, Calle Pari), we offer evidence-based psychotherapy: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

This approach is not just “talking about problems.” It is practical training in which we identify negative thought patterns and give you concrete tools to change them, improving your emotional well-being in less time.

Areas of specialization:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Depression and deep sadness
  • Work stress and burnout
  • Low self-esteem
  • Grief and loss
  • Personal growth

What are the sessions like?

Sessions last 60 minutes. We work in a confidential, warm and non-judgmental setting, located in downtown Santa Cruz. We see patients Monday through Saturday.

If you prefer not to travel, this same process is available as online therapy anywhere in Bolivia. And when the reason you are seeking help involves your relationship or a child, we offer dedicated couples therapy and child therapy.

What is your first session like?

The first appointment is an initial assessment session. You don’t need to prepare anything: just come in and we’ll talk. We spend the first 50 minutes listening to why you are seeking help: what brings you here, how long you have been feeling this way, what you have tried before, and how it is affecting your daily life (sleep, work, relationships, physical well-being).

In the last 10 minutes I share a first clinical impression with you, explain how Cognitive Behavioral Therapy applies to what you are going through, and together we agree on an initial treatment plan: how many sessions we estimate, how often, and which concrete goals we will work toward.

There is no rushed diagnosis and no medication prescribed in session: CBT works with psychological tools. If your condition requires a psychiatric evaluation, we refer you to a trusted colleague and coordinate your follow-up.

Frequency, fees and packages

The recommended starting frequency is one session per week. This pace lets you apply and review the tools practiced in session before too much time goes by. As you progress and reach your goals, we space sessions out to every two weeks and then to once a month.

Single individual session: 190 Bs (60 minutes). 4-session package: 650 Bs (you save 110 Bs compared with paying for each session separately). 10-session package: 1,500 Bs (you save 400 Bs). A package is ideal for starting therapy with continuity: the first phase of treatment (4 to 6 weeks) is when the key skills of CBT take hold.

Most CBT processes take between 12 and 24 sessions, that is, three to six months with weekly sessions. This is an approximate range drawn from the protocols with the strongest evidence, not a prognosis: the actual length depends on the reason you are seeking help, your personal history and how the work progresses. We discuss it in the first session and review it along the way. CBT is designed to come to an end: success means you no longer need therapy, not that you stay in it indefinitely.

Who is this therapy for?

Individual therapy with a cognitive behavioral approach is suited to adolescents over 16, young people and adults who are going through any of these situations:

  • Generalized anxiety, panic attacks, specific phobias or social anxiety
  • Depressive episodes, dysthymia, persistent lack of motivation or anhedonia
  • Chronic work stress, burnout, impostor syndrome, difficulty being assertive
  • Self-esteem problems, emotional dependency, difficulty setting boundaries
  • Grief (loss, separation, a breakup, being laid off) that lasts longer than expected
  • Life crises: career changes, difficult decisions, family transitions
  • Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), with a specific module of adapted CBT
  • Support during chronic medical treatment or health processes that call for psychological adjustment

When it is NOT the right therapy: acute psychiatric conditions that first require medical stabilization (active psychosis, suicidal ideation with an imminent plan, bipolar decompensation). In those cases we refer you to psychiatry, and psychotherapy can resume alongside or after stabilization.

Confidentiality and ethics

Everything discussed in session is protected by professional secrecy, governed by the Code of Ethics of the Colegio de Psicólogos de Bolivia (Bolivian College of Psychologists). We do not share information with family members, employers or institutions without your explicit written consent. The only exceptions to this principle are legal ones: imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, and a formal court order.

If your process requires it, we can coordinate with your treating physician, school or employer only with your authorization, through professional clinical reports that you review before they are delivered. You have the right to request a copy of your clinical record when therapy ends.
